From the preface: "...[T]he studies that comprise this book were designed to serve quite directly the purposes of those preaching on Zechariah's night visions. More broadly, however, our intention has been to cultivate among all the Lord's people an appreciation of the biblical-theological approach in the exploration of the treasures of God's saving truth in the Scriptures. What is presented here is then a biblical-theological reading of the prophetic visions of Zechariah 1-6. We try to grasp the significance of these visions in the light of their identity as part of the overall eschatological drama of the kingdom of God from creation to consummation, that eschatological reality on which they, in turn, are themselves a window. Though differing somewhat in form from the usual verse-by-verse commentary, this biblical-theological study is still presented as a work of rigorous exegesis, with fresh solutions suggested for the interpretation of some of the key exegetical puzzles with which the enigmatic but not unfathomable symbolism of these visions confronts us.

Featured throughout the night visions is a remarkably rich revelation of the Messiah. Reflecting that, each of our chapters is entitled in terms of the office or redemptive act of Christ that is highlighted in the vision in view. Also conspicuous is the role of the Spirit in relation to the messianic mission, particularly in his identity as the theophanic Glory, the Glory-Spirit. This Glory of the heavenly presence of the triune God is indeed the dominant reality in Zechariah's visionary world. And central in the message of the night visions is the gospel promise that this Glory-Presence is vouchsafed to God's people, at last in eschatological fullness. Hence the title: Glory in Our Midst.

This was an excellent book and I highly recommend it. The depth of its theological insight is amazing and its symbolic interpetation is also insightful and makes the reading of the book of Zechariah more understandable.

Kline's treatment of Zechariah in the context of the Scriptural canon is really a joy to read. I found myself constantly going back to my Bible as he walked through certain themes that manifested themselves in Zechariah, excited to see what meta-narratives he was able to show through his linking of texts. In treating Zechariah as he does, within a biblical-theological framework, it allows him to focus very specifically on the Biblical text without getting encumbered in questions of a more critical nature. One caveat: He does write with a fair amount of theological jargon so it may take awhile to get used to the way he says things, but I implore you to stick with it and keep going until the end. His presentation of the structure of the book of Zechariah at both a high level and down in the weeds, so to speak, is pretty incredible to read and then see with your own eyes as you search the Scriptures for yourself.

Glory in our Midst By Meredith Kline, published by Two Age Press take what could be a confusing prophesies by an ancient preacher and splashes the vivid color of the Glory of God revealed through Jesus Christ.Zechariah in his night vision sees the glory of God that will be revealed in the future coming of the Jewish Messiah. Kline believes that this vision points to Jesus Christ and his ministry as redeemer and consummator of all the covenant promises of God.Kline in a very thorough exegetical manner show that all scripture points ultimately to Jesus Christ as the one who will dwell among his people and redeem them as well. The symbols of covenant, temple, flying scrolls are all dealt with in this commentary on Zechariah. If you are wondering how the Old Testament is relevant to today, or how it relates to Christ then this book is a must read.Patrick Malone, PastorLiving Hope Presbyterian ChurchNutley, NJ
